Madeira market, and with the arrival of peace in Angola, the AFA Group decided to invest in this country.

In 2007 a parcel of land with an area of 40,000 m2 was purchased in the Viana Industrial Zone, where the construction of the company's base building yard is being completed, composed of offices, a residential area, canteen, repair shop, warehouse and concrete plant.

That same year, a works contract was signed with INEA (the Angola Roads Institute) for the rehabilitation of the Muconda/Cassai/Luau Road, over a distance of 115.6 Km, for an initial amount of 75,548,667.10 USD and for a period of 20 months. The works began in February 2008, in which the layout of the route was retained, but new earth grading was needed, due to its poor state of repair. Over the distance of the works, various water courses are crossed, specifically the Luembe and Cassai Rivers. The latter defines the border between the provinces of Lunda, Sul and Moxico.

The cross-sectional profile calls for a carriageway 7.00 m wide and berms of 1 m on each side. The surfacing is made up of two granular layers (sub-base and base, 15 cm each) and a surface layer in asphalt, 4 cm thick. The plans include a project for longitudinal and transversal drainage over the entire distance of the road, as the area is one of high rainfall. Also included is signage, both vertical and longitudinal, as well as the installation of guardrails at critical points of the route.

A support structure had to be created. A building yard was constructed to house all the logistical support for the work, seeing that in the are, did not have housing for all the workers. The building yard is made up of various lodgings and corresponding sanitary installations, canteen and social hall, laundry room, repair shop, metalworking shop, offices, and store room.
There are around 150 workers on the job, 30 of which are expatriates. Among other equipment being used on this job, we have 24 dump trucks, 7 excavators, 5 motor graders, 6 soil compactors - wheels and roller, 3 bulldozers, 5 wheeled front loaders, 4 water trucks, a set of road surfacing equipment (asphalt paver, wheel and cylinder roller, etc), a rock crushing plant and an asphalt mixing plant.

The conclusion of the work is projected for early 2011 (a total of 36 months), due to works in addition to those initially proposed.
